A devastating windstorm has wreaked havoc in the Ikot Otu and Ikot Ekpene Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State, displacing over 300 households and causing extensive damage to property worth millions of naira.
The windstorm, which struck recently, tore off roofs and brought down walls of buildings in the affected communities, leaving many families homeless.
Aisueni Mmandu, the Head of Operations of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Uyo, confirmed the incident and stated that some of the victims have found shelter with relatives or in churches.
NEMA conducted an on-the-spot assessment to determine the extent of the damage and identify measures to mitigate the impact of the disaster. The majority of the victims have been left without homes or livelihoods, as the windstorm destroyed homes, schools, factories, farmlands, and economic trees.
The government is working to empower the affected people to rebuild their lives and recover from the devastation caused by the windstorm.
