343 property owners across several villages in Gombe state have received compensation cheques from Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
The State Government’s attempts to cushion the effects of the erosion included the payment of the compensation sums.
As Governor Yahaya handed out the cheques, he emphasised the need to stop the encroachment of the erosions to accessible areas. The State Project Office of Agro-Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) and the Gombe State Government collaborated on the erosion control project, which was sponsored by the World Bank and started in November 2023.

The project, estimated to be worth more than N12 billion, is to address a 21-kilometer gully erosion that affects places including the Arawa quarters, London Mai Dorawa, Malam Inna, Wuro Ledde, and Wuro Kesa, as well as the Federal College of Education (Tech) Gombe.

Governor Yahaya spoke to the awardees during the presentation event and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to making sure the project’s impacted parties receive fair compensation in exchange for a simple relocation procedure. He detailed the allocation of N389,740,014 for both the Resettlement Action Plan’s overall implementation and compensation to Project Affected Persons.

Governor Yahaya stated the government’s intention to provide fair compensation to enable the impacted persons  relocate while acknowledging the shifting market prices for land and possessions. He implored the recipients to make the most of their chance.

Governor Yahaya made it clear that, the compensation is intended to lessen the hardships of moving and let people impacted by the erosion control project start afresh in their new communities.
