The Lagos State Government has served owners and occupants of residential structures that have been unlawfully changed into clubs, churches, mosques, lounges and bars with a 30-day ultimatum to return the facility to its original purpose.
The ultimatum was issued in a statement by Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources.

According to Wahab, the warning is the result of certain individuals distorting the Lagos State master plan by converting residential areas into clubhouses and places of worship while ignoring legal regulations, hence posing an environmental hazard.
He said, “The removal notice became imperative following citizen concerns about security and repeated complaints to the club owners about non-adherence to safety and security guidelines.”

Wahab asserted that, before the 30-day final notice expires, building owners in residential zones that have been transformed without permission into churches, mosques, clubs, restaurants and lounges to evict the residents.

According to him, the government would start the complete removal of the structures at the owners’ expense rather than providing any more notice about their closure.
