Africa’s leading non-governmental housing advocacy organisation, Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) has lauded the Lagos state government for unveiling its cutting-edge electronic Geographic Information System (e-GIS) platform.
Festus Adebayo, a pioneer in affordable housing promotion and the driving force behind HDAN, commended the state’s commitment to digitizing the land verification process.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday, January 30, 2024, Adebayo expressed appreciation for the efforts led by Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, emphasizing that the e-GIS platform will transform the way land titles are handled across the state.
The e-GIS platform enables residents to apply, search, and verify land titles online, ushering in a new era of transparency and efficiency.
One of the paramount benefits highlighted by Adebayo is the platform’s potential to eradicate real estate fraud, a pressing issue that has hindered the realization of affordable housing in Nigeria. He believes that the e-GIS system will fortify the real estate landscape in Lagos by promoting transparency and streamlining property transactions.
In his commendation, Adebayo called on the Lagos state government to expedite the public release of the platform, urging swift utilization for the benefit of residents. He lauded all parties involved in the project for their dedication to revolutionizing land management in the state.
Further underscoring the need for transparency in land matters, the HDAN executive director extended the call to the Federal Housing Authority (FHA). He urged the federal government to draw inspiration from Lagos’s initiative and promptly implement measures to enhance transparency, particularly in the crucial aspects of land allocation and ownership in Nigeria.
