Annual campaign will spotlight people at the heart of green buildings
Sept. 12, 2022 (Washington, D.C.) – This week, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) joins green building councils from around the world to celebrate World Green Building Week. Led by the World Green Building Council, the weeklong awareness campaign spotlights how green buildings, including LEED buildings, can help reduce carbon emissions and support economies around the world.

“Behind every green building are professionals driving smart design, construction and operations practices and decisions,” said Peter Templeton, interim president and CEO, U.S. Green Building Council. “They are the force behind the green building movement, driving innovation and better performance across the built environment. As part of World Green Building Week, USGBC aims to highlight the impressive work that these individuals do every day to create healthy and sustainable communities.”

This year’s theme is #BuildingForEveryone and highlights the people at the heart of the built environment and shows how green buildings’ holistic approach can accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals and sustainable built environments for everyone, everywhere. USGBC’s work is driven by its members, volunteers, and professionals who underpin the green building movement, including LEED professional credential holders.

USGBC’s LEED professional credentials denote proficiency in sustainable design, construction, and operations standards. There are 206,808 active LEED Accredited Professionals (AP) and LEED Green Associates in 120 countries and territories around the world.

LEED APs and LEED Green Associates come from across a variety of sectors and include architects, engineers, commercial contractors, service contractors, marketing professionals, consultants, as well as professionals in higher education, commercial real estate, nonprofit, and corporate sectors.

Throughout World Green Building Week, USGBC will highlight the people and professionals driving the green building movement. USGBC will also announce the 2022 class of LEED Fellows later this week, spotlighting LEED professionals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, impactful commitment, service, and advocacy in green building and sustainability.

USGBC joins the World Green Building Council and more than 70 Green Building Councils and their +36,000 members in leading the industry towards net zero carbon, healthy, equitable, and resilient built environments. World Green Building Week aims to bring awareness to take urgent action now to advance economies that are more productive and resilient for our communities.
