The Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria (AHCN) will be holding a two-day national workshop on facilitating affordable housing for medium and low- income earners tomorrow in Jos.

The theme of the workshop is “Housing Deficit and the Challenges of Low-Income Earners in Nigeria.” The 108th council meeting of the association is combined with the event.

The objective of the workshop is to stimulate appropriate strategies for facilitating affordable housing for low and medium income group amid unfriendly climate in Nigeria’s housing sector.

The workshop will also examine the role of Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in the training of skilled manpower to cater for the needs of the construction industry, the role of stakeholders in the provision of affordable housing for low-income earners as well as FMBN in funding affordable housing as a panacea for ameliorating housing deficit among low-income earners: The Plateau State Experience, among others.

Speakers at the event include Director General, Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute, Prof. Samson Duna and Director General, Industrial Training Fund, Sir Joseph Ari, Chairman, Abegyi Cooperative, Auta Emmanuel, Chairman of the Plateau State Economic Team, Mr. Nde Ezekiel Gomos, among others.

The Commissioner of Housing in Plateau Sate, Zulfa Rimven as well as his counterpart in the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning, Yakubu Datti will also be speaking at the event.

Major stakeholders and decision makers in the housing sector are expected to participate in this strategic workshop, which would also provide avenue for major players in the sector to rub minds and proffer appropriate modalities for facilitating affordable housing for the vulnerable Nigerians.

The workshop is also designed to reposition housing agencies to be awake to take advantage and maximise inherent opportunities in provision of mass housing for the people especially the low income group.
