The National Population Commission, NPC, has restated commitment towards ensuring a credible Population and Housing Census for effective service delivery to Nigerians.

The FCT Executive Commissioner of NPC, Joseph Shazhin Kwali made the call during a one day capacity building workshop organized by the Commission for Correspondents in preparation for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

Mr Kwali said the commission is striving hard to achieve a successful census through the involvement of the media and all stakeholders to deliver on its core mandate.

He added that with the approval of President Buhari for conduct of the Population and Housing Census, preparations are in top gear for the success of the exercise being a national program in which every citizen is expected to participate.

He said over the years, the Commission has invested considerable time and resources in planning for the census by drawing from its rich institutional experience spanning two censuses and a pool of tested professionals to give the nation a truly digital and scientific census that will generate data for national planning within the context of present realities.

The Federal Commissioner added that the outcome of activities, preparatory to the 2023 Population and Housing census has been reassuring as the commission, successfully demarcated 774 LGAs in all the States of the federation and the FCT.

According to him, the Commission had also conducted the first and the second census pre-test.

He however said the commission is on course in its mission of delivering an accurate census to Nigerians hence a strategic partnership with the media will form the tripod upon which the census architecture will stand to reach-out to the Nigerian people.
