In a bid to tackle security concerns and maintain the state’s aesthetic beauty, the Ogun State Government on Thursday, May 16, 2024, commenced the demolition of shanties and makeshift structures erected under bridges and public places across the state.

Led by Farouk Akintunde, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Environment, the exercise followed the expiration of the notice issued to traders, marking a significant step towards restoring order and safety in the state.

Mr. Akintude noted that insecurity has been the order of the day since the shanties have turned into a haven for crooks.

“We have issued them a notice since last year, but they have refused to leave,” Akintunde stated. The expiration date of the notification has passed. We are coming to destroy all improvised, shanties, and unlawful structures for this reason.

The authorities will not put up with this since these shantytowns have turned into havens for criminal activity. It’s an ongoing workout.
