The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) has urged the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) to engage only builders with a practice licence for its housing projects.

The Council Chairman, Dr Samson Opaluwah, made the plea when he led a team on a courtesy visit to the Managing Director, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Senator Gbenga Ashafa in Abuja.

Opaluwah emphasised the vital role of qualified builders in project delivery and urged FHA to engage only companies having builders with current practice licences in their operations and management functions in line with the Public Procurement Act 2007.

He further called on the housing authority to ensure that there is a rich stock of professional builders in the FHA towards having a succession plan for the profession. He assured the MD of the council’s readiness and determination to provide support to the FHA to fulfill her mandate.

Responding, Ashafa commended the council for keeping the light of the profession burning since its creation in 1989. He also appreciated the clarification made on the role of the builder and expressed the housing authority’s commitment to fill the gaps identified in the FHA and to address them expeditiously.
