An Abuja-based firm, Messrs Pennek Court Estate has appealed to the Federal Government to provide tax rebate for developers, which will enable them to deliver affordable housing to vulnerable Nigerians.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Messrs Pennek Court Estate, Kennedy Nnadi, who made this appeal in Abuja during the official opening of Pennek Court estate, identified high cost of land as the major factor militating against delivery of affordable housing and called on government to make land available for real estate development purposes.

He disclosed that the company is delivering 85 units of houses at an affordable rate, and employed about 300 Nigerian youths on their project as a way of helping the government tackle youth unemployment.

On issue around Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), he stated, “we are discussing with the government, but it’s a good idea, as with the CofO, the estate is already secured and all necessary documents will be transferred to subscribers.

“There are too many government agencies to interface with when you’re building houses, there should be a way to fine-tune the process like the Treasury Single Account (TSA), and one government agency should be responsible for housing matters.

“No country develops without private developers, the government may have an idea of what they want but developers drive that vision and mission. Government can support us by providing land, tax rebates and protecting our assets.”
